- Further information
Li Jin is a celebrated contemporary ink painter known for combining his fine technical skills with irreverent, and often wistful, imagery and text. In bright ink and wash, Banquet for the times presents a diverse party of revellers at a table, from a pig-headed guest to a topless tattooed man. The calligraphy surrounding the diners is from the Ten Great Vows of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva. Attributed to the enlightened Buddhist being Samantabhadra (Pǔxián in Chinese), the vows outline the path to enlightenment and include respect for the Buddhas, generosity, repentance, valuing others and seeking to benefit all sentient creatures.
