Further information

This blanket is composed of two pieces of cloth. The warp threads are indigo-dyed silk, and the weft threads are cream coloured. The unusual pattern on the body of the textile is of indigo-coloured silk. The end panel is elaborately decorated with metal-wrapped threads, and white, red, and brownish-green supplementary weft yarns that were added during the weaving process. This exceptionally fine blanket was once used in the Lao royal court and dates to around 1860, making it a rare piece.
