Further information

The Nek was the scene of a disastrous attack at Gallipoli on 7 August 1915 in which the Light Horse Brigade suffered 372 casualties. While surveying the battlefield in 1919, Lambert's party was forced to bury the bodies of hundreds of Australian soldiers in a strip of land the size of three tennis courts. He later wrote to his wife Amy, the 'gruesome is … scattered all over
the battlefield'.
