John Sulman (1849-1934) was a British-born architect who emigrated to Australia in 1884. He promoted town planning in Australia. Sulman was a Trustee of the Art Gallery of New South Wales from 1899 (president from 1919); and on his death his family endowed the gallery with funds for the Sir John Sulman prize for genre painting and mural decoration.
