A world away from the court embroideries are the blouses made by village women in the Banni region of Kutch, Gujarat, such as this piece. Where known, the name of the woman who created the choli is recorded as well as the specific place to which she belongs. While less detailed than court pieces, such folk embroideries make excellent use of their different shape and larger size to play with the overall composition and with richly coloured, geometric patterns also reflect the taste of the embroiderer who is also the weaver.
