  • About

Alun Leach-Jones grew up in Wales, and studied at the Liverpool College of Art. He arrived in Australia in 1960 where he undertook further studies in Adelaide. He spent from 1964-66 in London, where he came into contact with a number of British pop artists including Patrick Caulfield and Eduardo Paolozzi.

He has been well known for his geometric abstract paintings, prints and drawings since the mid 1960s. Since that time Leach-Jones has participated in a number of important exhibitions in Australia and internationally, including The Field (NGV, 1968). He lives and works in Sydney and is represented in all major Australian public collections.

In 1980 Leach-Jones was awarded a Visual Arts and Crafts Board grant to work in Berlin at an Australia Council studio. These drawings are part of a series of four (the fourth is in a private collection), and were made as a response to his experiences in Berlin during the last decade of the Cold War. His studio was in close proximity to the Berlin wall, which he could see from the window.
