About
A luminous vision of the apocalypse unfurls on the gallery floor. Cars, animals and a bicycle wheel ascend to the heavens. As flotsam rises, human bodies tumble down to earth. Paul Chan’s shadow-play confronts us with a parable of terror and rapturous salvation. Responding to calamities such as the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the work evokes collective anxieties that we may be living through the ’end of days’. '1st light' belongs to a broader suite of projections which ’hallucinate’ the seven days of biblical creation from dawn to dusk.
