About
This series of diptychs consists of natural objects overlayed onto Landsat satellite images of the Earth, showing both the macrocosmic and microcosmic duality of life. The colours and textures of the images and the objects play off each other, encouraging us to recognise that small things can affect the big picture.
Philips was also interested the visual language of Polaroid and Landsat images, the technical data in the margins and the traces of the chemical process of the Polaroids. Such documentation and technical processes highlight the various ways of recording the Earth and its surface.
