About
The phrase composed of the four characters "Mo Hua Zuo Ban" [here "mo" is used as "mei" (plum blossom) comes from Southern Song dyansty poet Lu You (1125-1210)'s poem "Four poems on seeking plum bloossom in the south"of the city «城南寻梅得句四首»:黯淡江天雪欲飞,竹篱数掩傍苔矶。清愁满眼无人说,折得梅花作伴归。It means to have plum blossom as companion, and depictes a lonely but noble-minded sentiment
The side inscriptions contain the name of Xin Hu, one of the many names of the name of Lou Cun, 楼邨, (1881-1950),a native of Junyun of Zhejiang province in China. He was a close friend of master Wu Changshuo who gave Lou this name whose pronounciation is very close to Xin Wu (新吳) meaning "new me".
