About
Boyd made a few portrait etchings of friends and contemporaries while living in London in the late 1960s. This was a period of great printmaking activity by the artist and resulted in a significant group of work, leading to his important Lysistrata series (in the Gallery's collection). Other subjects included Albert Tucker and Max Nicholson. The Gallery has three portrait etchings from this period; 'Self portrait' 1962-63, 'John Hull' c. 1964 and 'Mati Basis' c.1971.
Professor David Armstrong AO, FBA is now the Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at the University of Sydney.
