About
This was painted as an official order aiming at promoting the most famous song of the Red Army called Three important disciplines and eight notes composed in the 1930s. The song lists all the disciplines which the soldiers of the Red Army must observe, and which had helped them earn support from the people. The title of the song and part of the verse appears in the upper part of the image.
Liu Yulian, born in Shanghai, was a member of the Association of Artists in China and went to Helongjian's Beidahuang in 1969 as an Intellectural Youth (or Sent-down youth). He was one of the artists who collectively created comic strips such as Shang Hen （Scars), Feng， and other works which became the prepresented works of Scar Art in late 1970s and 1980s in China.
