This seal bearing inscriptions of "Zhang Gongzi" (Prince Zhang) is very likely related to a historical story which is often used in Chinese poems and proses. According to historical records, Han dynasty's Emperor Chengdi, Liu Ao (51 -7 BCE) often escaped from the Palace and enjoyed commoners' life with his close friend Zhang Fang. When he was asked , Emperor Chendi would introduce himself as "Zhang Gongzi".
