About
Collaboratively produced by American artists Ed Ruscha and Billy Al Bengston, ‘Zapato tiempo’ is the result of the combination of two etchings: ‘Reloj’ by Ruscha and ‘Dog with shoes’ by Al Bengston. ‘Reloj’, which features a clockface and grey stippled background, forms the ground of the collaborative print and ‘Dog with shoes’, which features a red marbled wash of silhouetted ‘Mary Jane’ shoes, is the overprint. All three etchings were printed and published by Ediciones Polígrafa, Barcelona in 1988.
Ruscha and Al Bengston met in Los Angeles in the 1960s and first collaborated in 1968 l on ‘Business cards’, a self-published artist book that wittily documented the design and exchange of their business cards.
