About
Freddy Ramabulana was born in Venda, South Africa in 1930. He is a very traditional man, with a background in traditional woodcarving and wire weaving. His figures are roughly carved, often dressed in Western clothing, with glass eyes and wigs. Ramabulana is a distinctive carver, his figures expressing the unhappy relationships that exist between many of the indigenous people of South Africa and the consumerism of the West.
