  • About

Cotman took up etching after his return to Norwich in a deliberate effort to enhance his reputation and gain a wider circulation for his work. His plates were aimed mainly at the growing fashion for antiquarian topography. The etching is from his first series of prints, ‘Miscellaneous Etchings’ published in 1811. The set consists of 26 plates of Yorkshire and Norfolk scenery.
