About
Liu Shuyong, known also as Lao Shu, is a much-admired photographer and painter as well as a prolific writer and influential scholar. His paintings carry a sense of the absurd in our modern lives of endless activity and pursuit of material things. It is a humour carried through engaging images that draw on Chinese heritage. The characters in his paintings express emotions from agony to ecstasy and the poems accompanying them are often irreverent.
