About
Margaret Harris (1844–1926) became an eminent figure in late 19th and early 20th century Sydney as a result of her generous contributions to the welfare of its citizens. Her major benefactions included provision of funds to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in 1900 for a new ward; a new wing at Burnside Homes Parramatta and longstanding support to Weemala Home for Incurables (now Royal Ryde Rehabilitation Hospital); and for the Mission to Seamen at The Rocks.
