  • About

In 1916 Weaver Hawkins sustained severe injuries while serving on the Western Front. A series of twenty operations saved his arms from amputation, though his right hand remained lifeless and his left never regained full strength.
This photograph shows Hawkins recovering in the grounds of the hospital surrounded by other patients and nursing staff.
