  • About

On 22 April 1947 Sydney was hit by a severe storm that caused flooding throughout the city. Earlier that year a hailstorm had damaged windows at the Art Gallery of New South Wales and these had not been properly replaced. Consequently the storm in April flooded three lower courts of the Gallery 'like lakes' in the words of the director of the time. Here an attendant takes works off the walls in the aftermath of the flood.
