Further information

In 1930, after completing her two-year intermediate art course at East Sydney Technical College, Barbara Tribe was selected by sculptor Rayner Hoff to enter his three year sculpture diploma course at the college. Hoff ran his sculpture course in the tradition of the master-pupil studio workshop, and he both influenced and promoted his students' work. Tribe's class was made up of predominantly female students, including Jean Broome, Anita Aarons, Liz Blaxland, Helen Brett, Treania Smith, Marjorie Fletcher, Nan Godfrey and Beth McDonald. This photograph shows Tribe at the college working on her sculpture 'Idol'.
