In 1904 Bertram Mackennal was awarded the commission for a Boer War memorial in the London borough of Islington. Mackennal's figure of 'Glory', cast in bronze, stands on a stone plinth inscribed with the names of the fallen. The memorial was unveiled by the Duke of Fife, Lord Lieutenant of the County of London on 15 June 1905.
