About
The life-size version of Bertram Mackennal's controversial masterpiece of the classical femme fatale, Circe, was first exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1893. Mackennal received an Honourable Mention and gained much praise and recognition for the work.
'Circe' 1893 was acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria in 1910. The Art Gallery of New South Wales has in its collection a statuette version of the work, dated circa 1902 - circa 1904.
