Dora Ohlfsen's war memorial at Formia was dedicated on 18 July 1926.
The message on the reverse of this card from Dora is incomplete: '...bathroom and the housekeeper looks after us. As soon as he left I went to bed for a week, I was so done in. We have an untiled roof to do our sun-bathing in and the sea washes the walls. When I am in bed I look over the water. I’ve often been here before but never for as long as this time. Wonderful ceremonies take place in front of my war memorial when the troops leave for Africa. A great many are camped here in the olive groves prior to their departure. Our sleeping studio is being done up (at our landlord’s expense) so we have to stay away till its ready. I’m peeling in ribbons after the sun. Baths in ....the oil. I’ll write a letter soon. All my love to you and yours, Dora (much love from Elena)'. Elena is Dora's partner, Elena von Kuegelgen.
