Amir-ul-umra Ali Mardan Khan the father of the subject of this portrait, Khuda-banda Khan, was appointed the governor of Kashmir by Shahjahan. He was a general and nobleman held in great esteem by Shahjahan. Compare with the portrait of Ali Mardan Khan held in the National Museum, Delhi.
