  • About

This square fruit dish (along with L2012.166) comes from a dessert service delivered in 1759 by Madame Duvaux (widow of the famous dealer Lazare Duvaux) to the maréchal-duc de Richelieu. A prominent figure at the court of Louis XV, Richelieu was renowned both for the effectiveness of his military leadership and the looseness of his morals. The gilding is outlined in carmine enamel, a device which helped conceal the tendency of the ground colour to turn yellow where it came into contact with gold.
