Art Adventure Tour: made in Japan
Identify recurring motifs in Japanese art including cranes, irises, waves and pine trees and learn their relevance to Japanese society and culture. Discover how the natural world has been portrayed in art and daily life.

Discussion tour
Gallery educators provide in-depth information and stimulate responses in small group tours tailored to your subject area:

• Visual Arts How did Kamisaka Sekka reinterpret traditional Japanese motifs and combine both eastern and western concepts in his artmaking? What further innovations have contemporary artists added?
• Technology and Applied Studies (TAS) How have Japanese artists adapted traditional designs to a range of media including lacquerware boxes, folding screens, fans, ceramic bowls, textile prints, pattern books and costumes
• Japanese Language What can a comparison of traditional and contemporary Japanese art tell us about Japanese cultural identity?

Workshop tour Japanese tea ceremony
Be a guest of a Japanese tea master in the Gallery’s own tea room and discover the influence of tea culture on Japanese art.
