AGNSW Contemporary Project

Patricia Piccinini is one of Australia’s leading contemporary artists, whose work has been widely exhibited both locally and internationally. In 2003 she represented Australia at the Venice Biennale.

Swell is part of a sequence of works that the artist calls Wilderness, which examines the evolution of nature in relation to progressive technology. Enticed by the sound of the ocean, the viewer enters the installation space and is surrounded by images of a turbulent, uncontrollable sea that eclipses the horizon.
