AGNSW Contemporary Project
Taking form brings together new works by Melbourne-based artist Agatha Gothe-Snape and Auckland-based artist Sriwhana Spong.
Incorporating installation, sculptural objects, video and live performance, these works engage with ideas of process and transformation, as well as the dialogue between history and the present.
Spong’s project The Stranger’s House includes a large painted backdrop based on an unrealised stage design by Sidney Nolan from 1940, accompanied by a series of fragile objects fashioned from marble and clay.
Gothe-Snape’s work Inexhaustible present is based on a movement score that responds to objects in the Gallery’s collection, developed in collaboration with choreographer Brooke Stamp. Documentation of Gothe-Snape’s dancing shadow will feature in the exhibition, until the last day when she will again realise the choreography live.
