Individual concepts of progress may not always produce the same picture. My work represents the transition from organic to structured, natural to artificial, traditional to technological. Engaging with the handmade practice of drawing with ink on paper I explored organic images, almost vein and root-like. I then scanned and transformed these images using software, increasingly combined with urban imagery, and cut them using laser technology. As the work evolved the hand of the artist became further removed. Consequently, the process echoes the physical work. Natural patterns and materials yield to a plastic embodiment of industrialised society.
