Restaurateur Matt Moran heading to Art Gallery of NSW

New look and menus for the Gallery restaurant and cafe

Matt Moran

Leading Australian chef and restaurateur Matt Moran will be bringing his passion for quality food to the Art Gallery of NSW from 1 July 2014.

Moran and his business partner Peter Sullivan from MorSul (Moran and Sullivan), together with Bruce Solomon of Solotel, have been appointed as the new restaurant, cafe and event food partners for the Gallery.

Matt Moran and Peter Sullivan are widely known for their high-quality restaurants and will bring a contemporary food experience of the highest creative order to the Art Gallery of NSW, director Michael Brand said.

More than 1 million people come to the Gallery each year and are looking for great food to complement their rich art experience – whether at our buzzing cafe, at our restaurant with some of the best views of Sydney, or at one of some 250 functions we hold annually, he said.

MorSul is the restaurant and catering group owned and operated by Matt Moran and Peter Sullivan. It includes some of Australia’s most noted restaurants, including ARIA Sydney, ARIA Brisbane, CHISWICK and North Bondi Fish.

Moran and Sullivan take over all venues within the Gallery from July and have plans for a destination dining concept in the existing restaurant space to be announced later in the year.

This is an amazing opportunity for us to offer a fresh range of dining and event experiences within this inspirational art space, Moran said. Good, sustainable, locally sourced produce including the best food and wine from regional NSW will be at the heart of everything we do.

New South Wales Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism and Major Events Andrew Stoner said the new Gallery food partnership would help build on Australia’s growing status as an international food and wine destination.

Having Matt Moran create wonderful food with fresh, local produce for Gallery visitors is a fantastic way to showcase the unique and exceptional dining experiences on offer in New South Wales, Mr Stoner said.

MorSul is a restaurant and catering group owned and run by Matt Moran and Peter Sullivan. In 1999, the pair opened the award-winning ARIA Restaurant on Sydney Harbour followed by ARIA Brisbane in 2009. CHISWICK, located in Sydney’s Woollahra, which has its own 150-square metre kitchen garden from which most of its produce is sourced, launched in 2012. The casual, beachside eatery North Bondi Fish opened in late 2013. MorSul’s events arm, ARIA Catering, launched in 2010 and is the exclusive, resident caterer at the Sydney Opera House.

In July 2014, MorSul will move into the Art Gallery of NSW and operate the venue’s cafe, restaurant and function spaces. Solotel, a leading hospitality group, is also in partnership with MorSul.
