Over 150 important paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings created by Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) have come from the artist’s personal collection. Representing seven decades of his work, the exhibition is part of a world tour and exclusive to Sydney.

Festival First Night

The Gallery stays up late to celebrate the first night of Sydney Festival 2012. Picasso: masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso, Paris will stay open until 11pm, and there’ll be a host of free events, from family-friendly afternoon activities to late-night music inspired by Picasso’s native Spain and his adopted home of Paris.

Aspects of portrait photography

A mesmerising video installation that fabricates an implausible and uncanny exchange between the late, infamous science fiction author Philip K Dick and his one-time muse and fifth wife Tessa.

20th-century Australian collection

Drawn from the Gallery’s collection, this exhibition highlights key themes and artists in Australian art from the early 20th century through to the 1970s.


Celebrating 2012 as the Year of the Dragon in the Chinese zodiac, this exhibition showcases artworks that carry the dragon motif, either from the Gallery’s collection or on loan.
