William Pidgeon Miss Whiteley

The subject of this portrait is writer Frannie Hopkirk (born 1937), who sat twice for William Pidgeon. Sister of artist Brett Whiteley, Hopkirk is also known as Wendy Whiteley – the same name as Brett’s wife.

This work is now in the collection of the Art Gallery of NSW. A later portrait of Frannie by Rodney Pople was a finalist in the Archibald Prize 2015.
