Eric John Smith Hendrik Kolenberg

Hendrik Kolenberg was born in the Dutch city of Rotterdam in 1946, migrated to Australia and was educated in Adelaide. At the time this portrait was painted by Eric Smith, he was curator of Australian prints, drawings and watercolours at the Art Gallery of NSW and of the Gallery’s exhibition Lloyd Rees: Drawings. He had been an education officer and curator at the Art Galleries of South Australia and Western Australia, and curator of art at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.

This work is now in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra.
