Rick Amor Portrait of Bruce Pollard

162 x 136 cm

“Fifteen years ago Bruce put me onto my current dealer so I owe him quite a bit!” says Rick Amor. Pollard is a well-known Melbourne gallery director.

“He’s quite an eccentric dealer,” says Amor. “He sits in his office all day playing solitaire. He doesn’t push sales. The sales that come to him come; he’s not out there hassling. And he has a very interesting face.”

Amor chose to place Pollard in a slightly eccentric setting: very spare surrounds with a fish tank in the corner. The main challenge was “setting up all the angles,” says Amor. “He’s a dynamic man in a very quiet way. I wanted a fairly dynamic composition and the angles help give it a slightly unstable feel.”

Rick Amor studied at the National Gallery of Victoria School with John Brack. He began work as a full-time professional artist in 1972 producing a constant stream of paintings, posters, illustrations and cartoons.
