Nick Meyers is a film and television editor with over 20 years’ experience. He is currently editing Robert Connolly’s second feature film Three dollars. Meyers edited Connolly’s debut feature The bank, for which he won an IF Award for Best Editing in a Feature Film. He received an AFI nomination for his editing of The boys and the short films Lucinda 31 and Simple. He was also the editor of the 13-part documentary series Homemade history that screened on SBS television in 2003.

Henry Mulholland met Meyers a few years ago and they have become friends. ‘Over the last year or so we have worked on a small media project together and in a way this portrait is a thank you to Nick for his support on that,’ says Mulholland.

Mulholland describes it as a fairly conventional portrait. ‘I find him at home where he also works. The film spools are there as he is a film editor and in the top right-hand corner are some videotapes. I want this juxtaposition to reflect the transition his craft has experienced as a result of rapid technological changes.

‘Nick works at night so he usually rises around midday. So here, we are having gelato and coffee for breakfast. He is wearing his favourite corduroy jacket – something we have in common.’

Born in Londonderry in Northern Ireland in 1962, Mulholland migrated to Australia in 1973. He studied at the National Art School at East Sydney Technical College. He has been hung in the Archibald Prize on eight previous occasions.
