Annette Bezor Face value: Kate Moss

This work investigates the fascinating, but sometimes horrible, world of celebrity. The painting techniques used in this triptych are intended to expose the brutal nature of this illusory world. The first painting is a glossy photoshopped image showing the glamorous role for which the celebrity is revered: the celebrity as perfected for public consumption. In the second painting, the use of coloured veiling is a metaphor for the masking of the individual: we hide behind our outer roles and are constructed by the world in which we live. The scratched, damaged surface of the third painting is intended to evoke fragility, vulnerability and the chaotic psychological space we all inhabit. Beauty and celebrity are transitory.
