Mostyn Bramley-Moore Windblown still life

oil on linen

122 x 110 cm

In my work, I have recently been dealing with different ideas about wind. I’m interested in ways that we interact with the world through our various senses, and in this context wind seems to me to be both physical and magical. This particular painting depicts a set of wire sculptures on our back verandah, quivering in the wind, which sweeps through trees and over paddocks before swooping past our house. The vibrating sculptures looked like weird flowers, or word bubbles in comic books. The wind animated them, and they seemed to have stories to tell.
