This painting is from a body of work depicting scenes from a journey along a remote highway. I have a fascination for the cinematography of road movies and at certain times of day, on certain roads, I find the act of driving to be a near-cinematic experience. My intention with this painting is to convey a sense of that experience.

The title occurred to me because of the sense of mystery and otherness, which I feel driving in remote areas at night, and because the signs in the picture are all intended for cars travelling in the opposite direction.
