Ruvé Staneke Dreamer (self-portrait)

oil on canvas

152.5 x 101 cm

Words both create and end life, yet still we seem oblivious to the way our speech affects those around us. As a teenager on the verge of adulthood, my mind is a whirl of dreams, visions, memories and words. This self-portrait is a visual portrayal of my deep internal thoughts. I am called to command light in the darkness, bring hope in despair, and speak life into death. We all are. Words are powerful, and once said, cannot ever be removed. So feed your mind with words of wisdom and speak wisely, because even the smallest of words can be a murderer, or a saviour.
