Dapeng Liu The temple, the sailing boat and the trolleybus ‒ a surrealistic mountainscape

oil on linen

160 x 140 cm

Human history is defined by movement and migration, by cultures mixing, and even civilisations. Not only do East and West meld but old and new, across dimensions of time and space. A synthesis can emerge – a unique blending in its own right. Through a series of paintings, I am exploring components which best lend themselves to fusion and balance. Here, the timelessness of the Chinese landscape morphs into my perception of Australia, this most ancient of continents. Treading a surreal path, I learn how China’s abundance of mountains sits comfortably with Australia’s varied and boundless coastline.
