G W Bot Glyphs and moon

watercolour and graphite on Colombe paper

123 x 83 cm

For many years I have been devising a language of marks, which I have termed ‘glyphs’ based on thousands of drawings made from nature. These are refined and distilled into compositions through meditation. The watercolour and graphite drawing Glyphs and moon is one such meditation where each form has a specific genesis in the Australian landscape. Collectively they evoke a general sensibility of a fragile, ancient and sacred topography and trace our path through it. The landscape takes on a different aspect and mood at different times of day. By moonlight the mystical and transcendental quality is particularly evident.
