Max Mannix Where I'd like to be

oil on canvas

122 x 92 cm

This painting is inspired by the Southern Highlands of NSW and, in particular, the Bowral area. My wife and I have been visiting the region for many years in the winter and love the intensity of the colours at this time of year. The landscape is dramatically undulating and beautiful, exposing a peep show of rooftops above the trees and between folds of countryside, set against a wall of mountains in the background.

I find the area inspiring to paint as the shapes and colours appeal deeply to my palette and style of painting.
