Tim McMonagle The admiral

oil on linen

124.5 x 124.5 cm

This old man presents himself as a belligerent old fool, an admiral anchored to his landscape. Gnarled limbs droop and twist towards sinuous foliage, sucking light to grow his story. Pastoralism still encroaches on this guardsman, who keeps watch, helpless to protect his environment, dehydrated when burnt by our blistering sun and flooded when the tempest takes hold. The admiral has untold stamina, and offers a lifeline for the environment that we care not enough about.
