Leah Bullen Conservatory no 2

Conservatory no 2 continues my investigation into locations that recreate the natural world. Constructed landscapes such as aquariums, conservatories and dioramas can serve to educate the public about the wonders of nature, as well as the environmental issues facing our planet. These venues also act as a kind of ‘theatre of the real’ where we experience an approximation of nature. In this way these sites are conceptually linked to the act of representational painting itself, which reimagines the world through illusion.
