Belynda Henry Islands five

acrylic and pastel on polyester canvas

218 x 171.5 cm

An everyday fascination with the Australian landscape is the main inspiration for my work. Living at the end of a secluded valley on the NSW Central Coast, I am always subconsciously gathering the natural shapes, flashes of colour and composition of the mountains and trees that surround me.

I don’t attempt to paint a clear representation of the area but take from everywhere, including other places I have visited while travelling. Then, back in my studio, I reassemble both recent and past memories, much like a jigsaw, into a simplified and emotional interpretation of the beauty that surrounds me.

Islands five is from a series called Islands inspired by Australian waterways.
