Watarru Collaborative Ilpili

synthetic polymer paint on linen

200.5 x 300 cm

The Watarru Collaborative consists of Wipana Jimmy and her daughters Beryl Jimmy and Imitjala Pollard, all from the tiny remote community of Watarru on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) lands in South Australia. Together these three women depict grand creation stories that have been passed down through countless generations. Their paintings show a particular sensitivity to the way these creation myths interact with and shape their beloved homeland, Watarru, and its many unique land formations. The Watarru Collaborative brings together distinct mark-making styles to create cohesive and dynamic artworks, filled with deep cultural integrity and a love and knowledge of country.
