  • About

After living in London for 18 years, Thea Proctor returned to Sydney in 1921 and become influential in the city’s modern art movement as an artist, designer and tastemaker. The leitmotif of her art was the slender, languorous woman, often depicted in an all-female space. In compositions of intensified colour and simplified form, they were Proctor’s vehicle for promoting her ideas on modern art and an idealised leisured modern lifestyle. They also imply women were the primary motivators change in the contemporary age.
