About
In this photograph Gilbert Bayes is working on the plaster maquette for his 1926 bronze statuette 'Lt Col. P. R. Lauire of the Metropolitan Mounted Police'. Bayes sent this photograph to the Trustees of the National Art Gallery of New South Wales, who had commissioned him to make two equestrian statues for the Gallery, 'The Offerings of War' and 'The Offerings of Peace'.
