About
Mrs Grey (Alexandra Simpson) was the model used for the figure of Australia on Dora Ohlfsen's Anzac medal. This pastel portrait was exhibited in Sydney during 1920, upon Ohlfsen's return visit to Australia.
A reviewer in the 'Sydney Morning Herald' noted: "one of the beauties of the English colony at Rome, Mrs Grey (Miss Alexandra Simpson), daughter of the British High Commissioner in China. The drawing wonderfully reproduces the pensive charm of the hazel eyes, whilst the features betray the fact that she sat for ‘Australia’ in the Anzac medal".
