Naturalistic flowers of this kind were known as Deutsche Blumen (ie ‘German’ as opposed to ‘oriental’ flowers). At this date they still retain something of the stiff, botanical character of Holzschnittblumen (ie ‘woodcut flowers’), but they are already being combined in decorative bouquets, as would become the norm in the 1750s.
